FM-200 is the clear choice for fast, clean fire protection. Patented in 1993
by the Great Lakes Chemical Corporation as a Halon 1301 replacement, it has
quickly gained acceptance as the world's leading clean agent gaseous fire
suppression agent.
FM-200 clean agent systems are:
- Effective: FM-200 extinguishes fires primarily by physically
cooling the flame; removing heat from the flame to the extent that the
combustion reaction cannot sustain itself.
- Versatile: FM-200 is well suited for a wide range of
applications:
- Telecommunications Facilities
- Computer Rooms
- Electronics and Data Processing Equipment
- Record Storage Facilities
- Art Galleries and Museums
- Electrical Control Rooms
- Safe for Equipment:
FM-200 is safe for sensitive
equipment. FM-200 is colorless, odorless, electrically non-conductive
and leaves no residue. Unlike conventional sprinkler systems or dry
chemical fire extinguishers, there is no messy clean-up. With an
FM-200 system in place, your facility can be back in operation after a few
hours, not days or weeks as with water or dry chemicals.
- Safe for People: FM-200 is non-toxic and safe for people at
normal firefighting concentrations. FM-200 is so safe that it has been
designated as a replacement for CFC propellants in pharmaceutical metered
dose inhalers, like the ones used to dispense asthma medications.
- Safe for the Planet: FM-200 does not deplete stratospheric
ozone and has a short atmospheric lifetime of 31-42 years. The United
States Environmental Protection Agency states (in Federal Register, Vol.
58, No. 90. 5/12/1993) that "HFC-227ea (ASHRAE designation for
FM-200) does not deplete stratospheric ozone. In addition HFC-227ea
(FM-200) is the most effective of the proposed HFC substitutes for Halon
1301."
- Fast Acting: FM-200 systems discharge in 10 seconds or less
and have been shown in UL tests to extinguish large fires in less than one
minute.
